Choose the method before changing the text

For a plain-text field, try a short Unicode phrase from this generator. In a rich-text editor, select the phrase and use its italic control. On a website you own, semantic emphasis can be marked with HTML em. These methods are not interchangeable: literal HTML tags pasted into a normal text field are usually just text.

Italicize specific words here

Check Only italicize specific words, then enter comma-separated whole words with matching capitalization. Entering quiet changes quiet but not Quiet or quietly. The feature matches all occurrences. For a single phrase within a longer message, generate that phrase separately and paste it into the original.

Understand what gets copied

Unicode conversion copies styled characters. Markdown copies punctuation that a compatible parser interprets, such as *quiet moment*. Native rich text may carry formatting only when the receiving editor accepts it. Pick the method based on the actual destination, then test a small example before replacing your original.

Frequently asked questions

Does typing HTML into a bio make it italic?

Usually it will appear as literal text rather than formatting. Use copied Unicode in a field that accepts it, or use that field’s native formatting controls.

Why does only part of my sentence change?

The selected-words option changes matching whole words only. Unsupported letters also stay unchanged. Turn the option off to convert all supported letters.

Is italicize different from italics?

Italicize describes applying the style; italics names the style itself. This page focuses on the different ways to apply it.
